I loved to play Chess. And I was always good at it.
With Chess, there is another game called Checkers. I had never played it. But one of my colleagues, he was very good at it.
So we decided to play Checkers everyday during lunch time.
First day, I lost. Second day, I lost. I didn’t like that feeling.
Third, fourth, ….., I kept losing till forty one days. That feeling was killing me.
But on 42nd day, I won.
On 43rd day, I won again.
So I did mental calculation, and I figured out that I need to keep playing for 40 more days and keep winning so that I will have one more victory than my colleague.
So 44th day, I won.
45th day, I won.
But then, I realized one thing:
Till the day, I was losing, my game was improving. But since the day I started winning, with every game, only my ego was improving.
That’s how it is in life.
We all keep saying that we want to improve, we want to develop ourselves, but we keep hanging out with people who are at par or at a lower end of the spectrum than us.
Thus,
If you want to expand your learning curve, hang out with people whom you look up to. And if you just want to massage your ego, hang out with people who look up to you.
That’s it for today. Ciao!
